Dear Camp Tatiyee Supporters, Families, and Community,
We are celebrating a mighty success during the first half of our summer! With four summer sessions behind us and hundreds of campers served, I want to thank everyone who makes camp possible. From the Lions Clubs across Arizona, to our incredible donors, to the families we serve, and so many others - you are the reason Camp Tatiyee is here each year for these kids. Thank you for all that you do, and please know that it truly changes lives.
And what better month to serve than Disability Pride Month! At Camp Tatiyee we embrace this month and encourage every camper to take pride in their differences, own their experience, and move through the world with confidence and independence. In this spirit, I want to share Ember’s story with you.
Ember has been attending camp for years and wrote a personal testimony about what camp means to her. Please read her powerful story, and think about what a difference camp has made in her life - and by extension, how supporters like you have impacted her life.
As we continue on with the second half of our summer, please know we are thankful to all of you for your support and engagement. I truly wish each and every one of you could be here to see the magic of camp in-person. For now, please see the rest of our newsletter and get an inside peek at Camp Tatiyee.
ember's camp story
I want to share the incredible impact that Lions Camp Tatiyee has had on my life, as someone who uses a wheelchair. Before attending camp, I really felt isolated and lonely. I struggled to find a sense of belonging and acceptance in a world that often overlooked or underestimated my abilities. But at camp, I found a community of people who not only saw me for who I am but also celebrated me.
From the moment I arrived at camp, I could feel the excitement in the air. The staff and other campers greeted me with warm smiles and friendly hellos. It was a feeling of belonging that I had never experienced before.
It was like finding a second family—a community that embraced me completely. A lot of the other campers I met here have been close friends of mine for years now, and they understand me better than anyone else.
Throughout my time at camp, I got to participate in a lot of fun activities, from arts and crafts to sports and games. Every activity was adapted to meet my needs, and I was able to challenge myself and explore new possibilities in a safe and supportive environment. I even got to ride in a go-cart for the first time, something I had never thought possible before.
But you know what truly sets Camp Tatiyee apart? The people. The counselors went above and beyond to make sure that everyone felt loved and valued. They were patient, compassionate, and just so nice! They didn't just see me as a child in a wheelchair, they saw me as a person with my own passions, dreams, and abilities.
Leaving camp was bittersweet, since I knew that I would be saying goodbye to a community that had become so important to me. But I left with a newfound belief in myself. I gained confidence and a sense of self-worth, knowing that I have the power to achieve my dreams and make a positive impact on the world—all thanks to the love and support I received at Lions Camp Tatiyee.
arts and crafts at camp tatiyee
Let's talk about something that makes Camp Tatiyee colorful and creative: our fantastic arts and crafts programs! Our campers get to unleash their inner Picasso and dive into a world of imagination and artistic expression at camp!
At Camp Tatiyee, we believe that every camper possesses a special gift waiting to be unleashed through the power of artistic creation. As they engage in artistic activities, campers develop essential skills like patience, attention to detail, and problem-solving. These children get a chance to experiment, make mistakes, and learn that every imperfection is an opportunity for growth and innovation.
For the special needs community, arts and crafts can also be an extraordinary medium of self-expression and empowerment. Through artistic creation, campers can communicate their thoughts, emotions, and unique perspectives. It's a platform where their voices can be heard loud and clear, where they can share their story with the world in a language that transcends barriers.
At Camp Tatiyee, we believe that the world is a canvas, and all of our campers have the power to paint it with beauty, passion, and endless creativity. So let's make memories, embrace the joy of artistic exploration, and uncover the masterpieces within us all!
